When it recracked this spring I took it back to the shop and asked them to see if they could find what could have gone wrong - no accusations, no time pressure just don't run up a bill - they kept it prob 6 weeks - driving it, looking things over on the lift, running it up to speed in the air to look for vibration - both driveshafts, rear only, front only, none. I asked basically spare no expense and fix this for good.

When I brought the truck to them last year I had just cracked the second case in 2 days and was switching to a more expensive / more established shop and I told them that - so I believe that they were on the look out for detail. I can't say for sure on the park rod installation.I can call and ask as I had it done at what I think is one of the better transmission shops in the area. I have myself talked into a 5 speed conversion but if this issue comes from the rear end or transfercase or engine or some unknown item and I wreck several grand worth of conversion parts I will feel pretty foolish I don't know shaft lenghts - but I will say I have only been paying people to change housings and reuse all my original from Gorends "guts" Trans is still in the truck and I can move but it leaks bad and I fear catastopheĪs for the un bearable shake - no - I think it drives like it always has - Gorends told me the vibration could be so slight I might not know it - driveshaft shop disagrees All stock but I too suspected the compression jamming the driveshaft into the tailshaft - I disconnected the rear un joint and got about an inch before the shaft hit the tailshaft seal cover I pushed and got yet another inch of compression on the rubber end cover so 2 inches and no hard stop - I moved on looking My truck is a single can long box with a one piece driveshaft so it is a longer one. Thanks for the responses - I fully agree this is a rare issues thus my cry for help to larger community for someone out there who had this Lasted the winter – no camper but pulling 2 snowmobiles maybe 1500 miles.ĭone guessing - will spend to fix the right way - Anybody had this issue or have things to check? Switched shops and had new U joints, tail shaft bushings, rear end yoke, drive shaft balance checked to 1800 rpm, trans rubber mount, all done prior to installing a new (not used) overdrive housing with existing internals.

Had a leaking crack last summer and had a used case with existing internals installed- lasted 1 weekend -300 miles. I do not drive it rough and have not changed my use or set up for 10 yrs. Truck has been used since 2001 with an in box camper around 1800 lb and used to pull trailers-2 horse, car, boat. Have a Banks Powerpack making maybe 600 ftlbs.

Had a Gorends 47RE in 2009 put in at 93 K miles at Gorends. I have a 12 valve with 140 k original miles. I have cracked (3) cases in this location in the past year. Looking for a root cause for overdrive case cracking at the bolt circle by the transmission end.
